Rep. David Kustoff, who represents Tennessee’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed the ongoing government shutdown and congratulated Mike Dunavant on his confirmation as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee in a series of posts on social media.

On October 7, 2025, Kustoff stated, “Roberta and I congratulate Mike Dunavant on his confirmation as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee,” said Congressman Kustoff. “Mike previously served as the United States Attorney in this office from 2017 – 2021 and had a strong record protecting the people”.

Later that day, Kustoff commented on the government shutdown, attributing responsibility to Senate Democrats. He wrote, “Let’s be clear: Democrats had multiple opportunities to avoid this shutdown, but they chose politics over people. Senate Democrats must end the shutdown by passing a clean funding bill without their $1.5 TRILLION in demands.”

On October 8, 2025, Kustoff continued his criticism, stating, “Day eight of the Schumer Shutdown has shown that Democrats are willing to hold our government hostage to appease their radical base. Democrats dragging out this shutdown does not benefit the American people.”

David Kustoff has represented Tennessee’s 8th District in Congress since 2017, succeeding Stephen Fincher. He was born in Memphis in 1966 and currently resides in Germantown. Kustoff is an alumnus of the University of Memphis, where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees.
