Rep. David Kustoff, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 8th district since 2017, has used social media to address the ongoing government shutdown and highlight law enforcement efforts in Memphis.
On November 3, 2025, Kustoff criticized Senate Democrats for their role in the federal government shutdown, stating: “The facts are simple: Senate Democrats have voted 13 times to keep the government closed. The finger-pointing coming from Senate Democrats is absurd. Here is their voting record: https://t.co/RtJ3GlD1Ro”. Later that day, he acknowledged local law enforcement efforts by posting: “I met with @USMarshalsHQ Director Gadyaces Serralta and Marshal Tyreece Miller of the Western District of Tennessee to discuss their incredible work with the Memphis Safe Task Force. Their leadership and commitment to getting violent offenders off the streets are making Memphis https://t.co/GhGJ6aLBdf”.
On November 4, Kustoff appeared on a news program to further address the shutdown, writing: “I joined @RickLeventhal on @NEWSMAX to discuss the Democrat-led government shutdown. We’re now days away from the longest shutdown in U.S. history because Senate Democrats refuse to pass a clean funding bill. @SenateDems are putting politics before people.”
Kustoff was born in Memphis in 1966 and currently resides in Germantown. He graduated from the University of Memphis with a BA in 1989 and earned his JD there in 1992.
