Rep. David Kustoff, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 8th district since 2017, has been actively engaging with his constituents and followers on social media regarding legislative activities surrounding tax policies. Born in Memphis in 1966, Kustoff graduated from the University of Memphis and currently resides in Germantown.
On May 13, 2025, Rep. Kustoff announced that the Ways and Means Committee was beginning to mark up the tax portion of President Trump’s new bill aimed at extending and expanding upon the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. He indicated his intention to start a series examining each provision of this significant legislation.
Later that day, Kustoff provided an update on the progress of the committee’s work via another post. “4 hours in and we are just getting started!” he wrote, emphasizing the dedication of himself and his colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to fulfill their commitment to extend these tax cuts.
In a subsequent tweet posted early on May 14, Kustoff highlighted the urgency for congressional action by stating that if Congress fails to act, residents of West Tennessee would face a nearly 26 percent tax increase due to the expiration of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act at year’s end. He expressed his readiness to work through the night to prevent such an outcome.
David Kustoff replaced Stephen Fincher as representative for Tennessee’s 8th district in 2017. His academic background includes a BA and JD from the University of Memphis.
