Rep. David Kustoff, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 8th district since 2017, recently shared his insights on the “One Big Beautiful Bill” through a series of tweets. Born in Memphis and currently residing in Germantown, Kustoff graduated from the University of Memphis with both a BA and JD.
On May 21, 2025, Rep. Kustoff outlined key components of the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” stating that it “delivers for Americans” by ensuring no tax on tips or overtime pay, doubling the Child Tax Credit for over 40 million families, increasing the standard deduction for 91% of taxpayers, providing a 23% small business deduction, and securing the southern border.
Later that day, Kustoff mentioned his appearance on Newsmax with Todd Starnes to discuss President Biden’s bill. He emphasized its importance by warning that without its passage “West Tennesseans will see a tax increase of nearly 26%”. He affirmed that House Republicans would not allow this outcome.
In a subsequent tweet dated May 22, 2025, Rep. Kustoff issued a reminder about ongoing political tensions regarding tax policies. He noted that House Democrats were opposing Republican-led tax cuts and were advocating for “a massive 26% tax hike on hardworking Tennesseans by year’s end.”
David Kustoff has been an active voice in legislative matters since he took over from Stephen Fincher in Congress. His educational background includes degrees from the University of Memphis.
