Rep. David Kustoff, who has represented Tennessee’s 8th District in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed a series of legislative initiatives and political developments via social media posts. Kustoff, born in Memphis in 1966 and currently residing in Germantown, holds both a BA and JD from the University of Memphis.
On July 14, 2025, Kustoff highlighted his introduction of new legislation targeting contraband cell phone use within prisons. He stated: “Contraband phones turn prisons into command centers for gangs and drug rings. That’s why I introduced the Cellphone Jamming Reform Act. This bill will give prisons the authority to block illegal cell phone signals and shut down criminal activity at its source.”
The following day, July 15, 2025, Kustoff announced tax policy developments secured by the House Ways and Means Committee. In his words: “Great news for American taxpayers! @WaysandMeansGOP fought hard and secured permanent extensions of the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. In addition, we delivered no tax on tips and overtime, tax relief for seniors, and so much more! These wins mean lower taxes for”.
Later on July 15, Kustoff expressed support for Speaker Johnson’s assessment of President Biden’s early tenure while reaffirming his party’s ongoing legislative agenda: “.@SpeakerJohnson is spot on! @POTUS’s first six months have been successful – this is what America First leadership looks like! @HouseGOP will continue to deliver winning results for every American!”
Kustoff succeeded Stephen Fincher in Congress in 2017. He is currently serving as a member representing Tennessee’s 8th district.
