Memphis, TN — Representative David Kustoff has issued a statement following the death of Fred Smith, founder of FedEx.
Kustoff highlighted Smith’s service as a U.S. Marine Corps officer in Vietnam before his significant contributions to Memphis and the state. “Before building one of the most influential companies in modern history, Fred Smith served his country with honor as a U.S. Marine Corps officer in Vietnam,” Kustoff stated.
Smith’s influence extended beyond business, touching various aspects of Memphis life through philanthropy and community investment. “It is hard to fully capture the impact he had on our city,” Kustoff remarked. He noted Smith’s dedication to education, sports, and future generations in Memphis.
Kustoff expressed gratitude for having collaborated with Smith over the years, acknowledging his continuous efforts for community betterment. “I had the privilege of working with Fred Smith on many issues over the years,” Kustoff said.
