Several students from the University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Mass Media and Strategic Communication were honored with Best of the South contest awards during the Southeast Journalism Conference’s virtual awards ceremony held March 26.
Tatum Baldwin, a senior from Manchester, won first place for best radio journalist, and Davis Gregory, a junior from Knoxville, won third place for best radio news reporter. Jared Jordan, a 2021 graduate from Bruceton, also won third place for best data journalist.
WUTM 90.3 FM “The Hawk,” UT Martin’s student-run campus radio station, ranked first in the “Best College Radio Station” category. This marks the 10th time in 16 years that the station earned top honors. The station has also been ranked in the top three for best college radio station for 16 years. Dr. Richard Robinson, professor of mass media and strategic communication, is the station’s faculty adviser.
Best of the South rankings are based on work previously submitted by students. Participants represent more than 30 colleges and universities from seven southeastern states.
