Dyersburg State Community College Harry Ferrell’s Golf Team Takes Home DSCC’s College Cup

Harry Ferrell’s team claimed the traveling crystal cup for the first time during the Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) annual Ed Lannom, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament on Oct. 7 at the Lenox Event and Golf Company in Dyersburg.

Twenty-four teams competed in the annual event led by golf tournament director John Tucker. President Dr. Scott Cook and Emeritus President Karen Bowyer served as the presidential putter throughout the afternoon on the 18th green.

The platinum sponsors were Dot Foods, Dr. Buck Tarpley, and Faith Deliverance Apostolic Church, Inc. Forcum Lannom Contractors, LLC contributed as the gold sponsor. The silver sponsors included Champion Roofing and Construction, LLC., Rose Construction, and Trenton Mills. Door prizes were donated by BSN, DSCC Athletics, and First South Financial Credit Union and our special sponsors, Burks Beverage and Broadcasting and the Lenox Event and Golf Company.

Tournament winners were recognized in two flights of play and winners of special contests, including a closest to the pin contest, a putting contest, and the longest drive contest. In addition, a $1 million hole-in-one contest was sponsored by The Lenox Event and Golf Company.

Harry Ferrell’s team, the overall winner of the first flight, included team members Harry Ferrell, Gerald Horton, Steve Forsythe, and Brian Lee. The City of Newbern, consisting of Jason Roberts, Ryan Gammon, Mark Madden, and Steve Pennington placed second. The Brew Crew #2 placed third and included team members Dan Ekvall, Mike Mangrum, Greg Moore, and Tony Berardi.

The Edward Jones team consisting of Chris Weik, Clay Gatlin, Scottie Schultese, and Glen Thurmond took first-place honors in the second flight of play. The Hinson team took second place, including Derrick Hinson, Cody Purvis, Eddie Sims, and Jared Anderson. The BSN team consisting of Chris Messer, Peanut Messer, Mike Colon, and Wade Bigham came in third.

Jeff Alford was the winner of the longest-drive contest. The winner of the longest putt was Steve Pennington. Glen Bishop and Tony Carson were the closest-to-the-pin contest winners, making them both eligible to play for the $1 million hole-in-one contest. Although both made respectable drives, they each came up short in the end.

DSCC concluded the tournament with a drawing for the early bird registration prize. Alex Lewis was the winner of a gas grill donated by Lowe’s of Dyersburg. “We would like to extend a special thanks to all sponsors, participants, and volunteers for your continued support of Dyersburg State,” said Dr. Amanda Walker, Vice President of Advancement and External Affairs.
