University of Tennessee at Martin Grant Phillips Signs with Two-Time Defending OVC Champion Skyhawk Golf Program

University of Tennessee at Martin head golf coach Austin Swafford has announced the signing of Grant Phillips, who will join the Skyhawk program out of Marietta, Ga. Phillips will be a freshman in the fall of 2023 at UT Martin.

"I am thrilled to have Grant join our program," Swafford said. "He has played on multiple tours at the junior and amateur level and proven he has the ability to post under-par rounds and compete at a high level. He has also proven his academics are a priority and has performed well in the classroom. Grant fits the type of young men we look for when we are out recruiting and I am excited to have him become a Skyhawk – I know he will represent UT Martin and himself well on and off the course."

Phillips has enjoyed a remarkable prep career under head coach Scott Brunet at Marietta High School, collecting All-Area accolades in the 7A ranks in 2021-22. Phillips was also a 2022 GHSGCA All-Star Tournament participant.

Since March 2021 alone, Phillips has registered two victories, six top-five, seven top-10 and nine top-15 finishes in various high school, qualifier and non-junior events. That includes a pair of wins in the span of a week in March 2022 as he finished first out of 60 participants in the Phillip Silverman Memorial at Indian Hills Country Club (74) before topping the 116-man field at the Gwinnett Open at the Chateau Elan Golf Course with a 71.

In other GHSA action, Phillips has posted runner-up finishes at the Cobb County Invitational at City Club Marietta (71 in a field of 100 golfers on March 9, 2021) and at the Parkview Invitational at the Country Club of Gwinnett (78 in the field of 60 golfers on March 19, 2022).

On the junior golf circuit, Phillips is coming off an impressive victory at the GA PGA Southeast Junior Open, carding scores of 70-71 for medalist honors in the field of 36 on Oct. 8-9. He has also earned top-four placements at the GA PGA West Georgia Junior Championship (69-72 on July 18-19, 2022), SJGT Lowell Fritz Junior Classic (74-74 on Aug. 13-14, 2022), GA PGA Georgia Southern Junior Classic (76-78 on Feb. 26-27, 2022) and GA PGA Junior Tour Championship (77-79 on Nov. 6-7, 2021).

Phillips is set to join a Skyhawk golf program that has produced three Ohio Valley Conference team championships and four OVC individual medalists since 2015.
