Four days after setting a school record for her performance against South Dakota State, University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian senior Julia Gilman was named Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Week in flat.
This marks the second time that Gilman has been spotlighted by the ECAC this season as she was also named ECAC Fences Rider of the Month for October. Gilman is the fourth Skyhawk to win an ECAC Rider of the Week award in 2022-23 (joining Kate Davis, Sydney Hott and Logan Putvinski) as UT Martin combined to win six of those honors during the fall semester.
Today's announcement results in the fourth career ECAC Rider of the Week accolade for Gilman, who also won the honor in flat on Oct. 5, 2021 and March 15, 2022 while also claiming the award in fences on Feb. 1, 2021.
Gilman made history on Friday during the Skyhawks' 13-6 home triumph over South Dakota State, which improved UT Martin to 2-0 in the ECAC standings. Riding aboard Tag and facing an opponent who had already scored 96 points, the Barrington, Ill. native produced a remarkable 97-point ride to etch her name in the record book.
On the season, Gilman owns an 84.4 scoring average, three wins and one MOP in flat. The reigning honorable mention flat All-American accounts for 16 victories and five MOP's in that event during her storied Jumping Seat career while also contributing 19 wins and two MOP's in fences.
The No. 9 ranked Skyhawks concluded the fall portion of their schedule and will open their spring slate on Jan. 27 at Baylor.
