Lane College Softball has record five players named Preseason All-Conference

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced its 2023 Softball Preseason Teams on Monday, as voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. 

The 2023 preseason team represents nine programs and returns 22 of the 28 players from the 2022 Softball All-Conference Teams.

Lane picked up five preseason selections. The Dragons return all-conference selections in designated player Savanna Johnson, utility Millay Lambert, and catcher Kaylee Stinnett who combined for a total 111 RBIs last season. They will be joined by outfielder Jayden McCarty and starting pitcher Autumn Phillips.


Johnson, a native of Blue Mountain, Miss., was third on the team with a .442 average. The senior had 34 RBI and slugged .533. She led the team in walks with 17 and finished with a .518 on-base percentage.


A senior from Florence, Ala., Lambert was second in the league in hitting in 2022 and eighth in the nation with a .477 average. She was second in the SIAC in on-base percentage (.541), fourth in slugging (.712), and first in triples (6). She set a new school record for runs in a season with 51.

 

Stinnett, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., slashed .421/.651/.513 in her debut season. She collected 21 extra base hits including 15 doubles while leading the team with 41 RBI. She carried a .978 fielding percentage and threw out 13 baserunners.


McCarty was selected first team outfielder after a standout freshman season that saw her bat .407 in 38 games with 35 runs scored and 33 RBI. The San Diego, Calif. product also added 13 stolen bases and carried a .450 on-base percentage.


Phillips got the nod as second team starting pitcher. She led the team with eight wins and pitched 94.2 innings. The sophomore from Hariman, Tenn. finished with a 3.11 ERA and collected 58 strikeouts.
