Census Bureau: 5.1% of people in Gibson County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 50,278 citizens living in Gibson County in 2021, 94.9% said they were only one race, while 5.1% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Gibson County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 77.5% or 38,960 individuals. Following them, African American accounted for 16.3% and totaled 8,187 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Gibson County is 1.3% higher than the state average, which stands at 3.8%.
