The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team lost 8-2 to SIUE in the series opener at Simmons Baseball Complex on May 14, but secured a place in the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Baseball Championships for the fourth consecutive season.

This development is significant as it marks continued postseason consistency for the Skyhawks, reflecting their ability to remain competitive within their conference.

TJ Grines led UT Martin offensively with three hits, including a home run and a stolen base, marking his ninth straight multi-hit game. Garner Anderson contributed three hits as well, along with a double and a stolen base. Andrew Lawrence added two hits, drove in one run, and drew a walk. Jacob Sitton pitched seven innings with six strikeouts in his fourteenth start of the season while Cason Sharp provided relief from the bullpen.

The Skyhawks took an early lead when Grines homered on the second pitch he faced for his tenth home run of the year. Sitton retired the first six batters he faced before SIUE rallied to take control by the third inning. Lawrence's single plated Anderson and narrowed UT Martin's deficit in the fifth inning. Sitton finished his outing with four consecutive scoreless innings before SIUE extended its lead late in the game.

SIUE scored additional runs in the eighth inning and closed out Game 1 of this weekend series with a win. The next matchup between these teams is scheduled for tomorrow at 5 p.m.

Looking ahead, UT Martin will prepare for both remaining games against SIUE and their participation in this year's OVC Baseball Championships.
