The Alpha Epsilon Alpha (AEA) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) academic honorary society at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) inducted 13 new members at the annual induction ceremony on October 21. The event was held in the Student Center at the Dyersburg Campus.
The inductees included Gwendolyn Lyle of Atoka; Janice Henry of Union City; Abdallah (AB) Suleiman of Dyersburg; Rachael Clair of Atoka; Emma Matlock of Covington; Nick Tomaszewski of Munford; Ashlyn Webber of Atoka; Emma Tomaszewski of Munford; Ashlyn Thomas of Union City; Reaghan Boone of Munford; Da’Maya Anderson of Trenton; Seth McDaniel of Covington; and Carla Stewart of Dyersburg.
“As Phi Theta Kappa members, these students will have an opportunity to earn scholarships, develop their leadership skills and receive academic recognition for their hard work and dedication to their academia. It is a great opportunity for DSCC’s students,” said Amy Johnson, Interim Vice President for the College.
The goal of PTK is to recognize its members’ academic achievements and provide an opportunity for them to become actively involved in student life at DSCC. As members of the society, students should exemplify its four hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. The Chapter Induction ceremony is a celebration of student success and commitment to academic excellence. “These students are not only the future, but these new inductees will lead the future in our community and industry. Personally, it is an evening I look forward to each semester as DSCC and Phi Theta Kappa honor leadership, scholarship, and fellowship,” said Associate Professor Dr. Brigham Scallion.
To be invited into membership in the society, students must meet the following criteria: have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher; have completed 12 hours of college-level courses at DSCC, have completed all college preparatory requirements, and currently enrolled in six semester hours or more as a student at DSCC.
